The first month of any new job is an extension of the interview process. Both you (the new hire) and the company are still assessing each other, so your behavior will determine how successful you are during the first thirty days. Make the right impression by following these tips:
Every company has its own culture---specific values, beliefs and habits that guide employee behavior. Observe how people communicate, what procedures are followed, the different working styles and then adjust your behavior accordingly. No matter the company size, people dynamics are a major component in how people get hired, promoted and the overall day-to-day experience at work.

As you are evaluating job offers the first thing you look at is likely the salary, while the rest is white noise. But I’ll be the first to tell you that the “boring stuff” matters. In fact, your understanding of it will make a difference in your standard of living. During the month of March, ECS hosted a mock interview competition via InterviewStream. InterviewStream is an online mock interview platform. InterviewStream allows students to do a virtual mock interview from any computer with a webcam and microphone. Engineering students were to choose one of eight mock interview options and complete a mock interview following the S.T.A.R. model for behavioral interviews. Their interviews were then submitted to an ECS advisor for feedback.

"I don't have a summer internship! Is it too late?" In short: NO. However, with only 4 weeks until summer break. It’s going to take a lot of work and effort to land a summer internship. You’re going to need to really want it. Below are some tips for obtaining a position.
- If you haven’t already done so, register with ECS!! As of this week, there are over 350 engineering internships and co-ops posted on our job board, CareerEngine. If you aren’t registered with us, you won't have access to these OSU engineering specific job postings! Info for registration can be found here.
- Assuming you are registered, start/continue applying! We recommend applying to at least 30 jobs per semester. While it may be a stretch to apply to that many this late in the game, there are certainly jobs out there for which …

As you likely know, Engineering Career Services works with a multitude of employers who are looking to hire Ohio State engineering students. Some of the employers come on campus to do their recruitment. Other employers prefer to simply post jobs that are specific to our students. While ECS puts a lot of time and effort into screening the high number of job postings that we receive, there is always a possibility that a fraudulent one could slip through unnoticed. Additionally, when you are searching on public job boards, you may encounter postings that are not trustworthy. Below is some advice on warning signs to look out for, so that you know if the job you are about to apply to is legitimate—or not. Avoid being taken advantage of by using these tips to spot fraudulent job postings.
