Got a Job? Tell Us. Here’s Why.

Did you know that ECS posts salary and wage data (by major) from the past several years on our website? This data is there to help you, as a student, see what the market rate is for your major. It can also help you to potentially negotiate an offer. We use this data to help employers determine a competitive wage when they are starting up a new internship/co-op program or posting a new full-time employment job.

Were you also aware that we have lists of Top Hiring Employers as well as Hiring Employers by Major? This is so that current and potential students can see who has hired Ohio State engineering students and is very helpful in the job search when making a target employer list.

Lastly, the information that is provided when students report their jobs is used for data and reports that ultimately help Ohio State’s College of Engineering maintain its ABET accreditation. This accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepared graduates. If the college were to lose accreditation, the value of your degree would go down.

All the information used for these data reports come directly from students self-reporting their internships, co-ops, and full-time jobs. This is why it is so important for you to let us know when you’ve accepted a position. Your information is kept confidential, and the information you provide is used for aggregate data as listed above – it will never be tied to your name. By reporting your job, you are helping current and future students, employers, and the college.

The best part? Reporting your job is extremely easy. For co-op and internship students, it’s done through Handshake. For full-time graduates, it’s done via a survey right before you graduate.

Action item: If you’ve accepted an upcoming internship or co-op for the Spring or Summer 2022 term, report your job here. If you are graduating this semester, report your job here (link available Monday, November 29). If you graduate in May 2022, you will be able to report your job in April. Questions? As always, contact ECS!
