Summertime means employer visit time

During the summer, the Engineering Career Services (ECS) Employer Services team hits the pavement. We participate in company meet-n-greets, career center visit days, intern final presentation showcases, and professional exchange visits, in addition to scheduling individual visits to employers.

So far this summer, Co-op and Internship Program Manager Katy Arenschield has enjoyed visiting Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Rockwell Automation, and Hyland, creator of OnBase. On each visit, she spoke with human resources staff to learn more about their hiring needs and the company itself, toured the facilities, and met with current interns to get feedback on their experiences and hear about the great work they’re doing.

A few highlights and best practices of these visits:

  • Meeting with students along with their manager and technical mentor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company allowed for an open conversation about what stands out in an interview, what makes a successful co-op/intern, how performance is evaluated, and the relationship between the engineers and interns.
  • A roundtable lunch discussion with 18 interns at Rockwell Automation. Because they are working at various facilities, the interns had not previously met as a group to discuss their projects and experiences. It was also a time for them to share what they liked about Rockwell and share ideas about how the company can continue to recruit top Ohio State talent.
  • An informal presentation about Hyland’s past, present, and future, and company culture, values, and perks was extremely helpful for ECS staff when meeting with students back on campus.
