The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) is in the process of hiring student veterans pursuing a degree in engineering for our paid Veteran Internship Program (VIP) – Patent Examiner Student Trainee. We are hosting an information session on February 11th, where you will receive detailed information about the VIP and hear from current and former program participants. You can participate in the information session in-person or virtually via WebEx.

This is not a typical summer internship program, but one that extends for 12-18 months of paid experience, training, mentorship and flexible work schedules to accommodate your school load and life. The great thing about the VIP is that contingent upon meeting on-the-job performance and program requirements, successfully completing your undergraduate degree and receiving your manager’s approval, you may be hired as an entry level patent examiner.

If you are hired for full-time employment after completing the program, you will transition from the paid internship into a full-time job as a patent examiner. You will be working with the largest intellectual property rights entity in the nation where you’ll gain experience, training and mentorship you won’t get anywhere else. You'll conduct research and interact with applicants who are working on innovative modern breakthroughs. You'll have access to alternative, flexible schedules, telework, bonuses, and highly competitive salaries and benefits.
