Computer Security Tech Talk presented by Epic

Presenter: Noah Dermer, Chief Security Officer
Noah Dermer is a developer at Epic managing the security R&D team, which develops software that helps hospital organizations ensure the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of healthcare data. Prior to his work on the security team, Noah worked at Epic on clinical applications where he designed, coded, and maintained computerized physician order entry software. He has also been a network administrator and worked for a large financial technology services company and a small technology consulting firm. Noah has undergraduate majors in political science and computer science and is a licensed attorney in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Epic makes healthcare software for mid-size and large medical groups, hospitals and integrated healthcare organizations, where the stakes for securing and protecting information are incredibly high. In his role on the Security team at Epic, Noah is responsible for building security into enterprise applications. In this talk, he'll discuss the technical challenges of implementing something as simple as secure passwords, from hashing itself, to hash function conversions to choosing the right encryption algorithms and protocols. He'll explain emerging models for mobile device security. And finally, he'll focus on the implications of security breaches.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided!
