The Ohio State Engineering Job Shadow Program is a unique way for you to connect with employers. It’s rare that you get to spend the better part of a day learning about a specific company or industry on-site and meeting a variety of company representatives. Also noteworthy? Typically in the world of recruitment, the employer chooses you. With job shadow, so long as you match the event’s criteria and can transport yourself to the event, YOU get to decide what employers you would like to visit. Last year, ~80% of employers participating in job shadow stated that they used the program as a recruitment tool. So it’s very possible that your time spent developing insights and connections at the shadow could lead to future employment. Now that I’ve sold you on why you should participate, I’m going to break down the major changes for the 2017-2018 program.

So many amazing companies come through our office every day. Four years ago, ECS decided to formally recognize those employers who were providing our students with outstanding and unique experiences with our first ever “Employer of the Year Award.” That year, we chose our winners. But something was missing. We felt that students themselves should have a hand in determining the cream of the crop when it comes to top intern and co-op experiences. Thus, the award became a student-nominated honor.

Are you a first year student eager to get a jump start on your internship/ co-op search? By attending the First Year Gear-Up on December 2nd, 2:30pm – 6:45pm at the Ohio Union you can begin using the benefits of being registered with ECS up to four months earlier than your classmates. The Gear-Up is a free event that gives first year students the chance to complete all registration requirements in one 4-hour event.
How do I register?
You must be registered to attend and registration is free. Detailed instructions will be emailed to qualified first year students on November 2nd. Programming materials and dinner will be provided to those selected to attend and spots are limited.
What will be covered during the Gear-Up?
