ECS offers a wide variety of tools to help students in the job search process. One of the options we provide is located in Handshake under “Career Center” > “Resources” titled “Other Opportunities”. Often overlooked, this section includes information about events or experiences that companies are hosting. Check out some of the most common categories you can find to enhance your resume, job search, or career interests.
Companies and third party recruiters put on career fairs at no cost to students, and many of these are virtual! Enjoy the experience of looking for specific companies or opportunities while staying in the comfort of your home. Many of these career fairs will target specific industries or majors so that you aren’t trying to navigate through 100s of unrelated companies. When you chose engineering as your major, it’s likely you did so because you were good at science and math, or perhaps you had a family member who was an engineer, or maybe you simply enjoyed problem solving. Now that you are at Ohio State, and you are on your way to becoming an engineer, what does that mean job-wise? Typically design engineering is the first role that comes to mind when you are thinking through your options. However, engineers have a multitude of possibilities when it comes to career paths. Consider that there are positions like applications engineer, test engineer, quality control engineer, product engineer, project engineer, and marketing engineer. You can sign up for one event per day (five maximum) over Spring Break (March 11-15). Not only will you learn about the day-in the life of an engineer, but you will also meet company contacts that hire students like you! In fact, many participating employers state that they use this program as a recruiting tool. It’s spring and companies are beginning another round of campus recruitment efforts. The SWE Career Fair is just around the corner and ECS wants to make sure you are a part of the many ways to connect with employers. Intern Week(January 22nd – 29th) was developed for students seeking internship experiences and looking for ways to connect with professional skills and engineering employers. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) reported that a majority of companies discover new hires through on campus resources, activities, and clubs. So, while your resume is important, it is just as critical to begin building relationships with recruiters in person.

Engineering Career Services has some exciting changes and additions for 2019!
- Intern Week is a new program primarily targeting first and second year students in their pursuit of an internship or co-op. It is strategically placed the week before the SWE fair and is packed with events.
- SWE Career Fair is on Wednesday, January 30th and will admit BS students within one calendar year of graduation, MS/ PhD students, and recent alum ONLY from 1pm -2pm, while the fair will be open for ALL students from 2pm-6pm. Read more HERE.
- Job Shadow will now take place during Spring Break week and signups will happen virtually via Handshake beginning February. This will allow you to quickly secure your spot to network with employers and get insider knowledge of a specific industry or company.
- Engineers Week celebrates the varied careers within engineering with events during the week of February 18th.
