Welcome Back from the ECS Director

Posted:

Welcome back to campus! As I begin my 9th year here in ECS, I want to thank you for participating in all the things we have to offer and for being such amazing and gracious students to work with. We try our best to listen to you and provide exciting events and services that align with your needs. Even though much has changed, much has remained the same. Resumes are still being used when applying to internships/co-ops and jobs; networking is still key to helping you find a job; and using technology to help you along the way has increased by leaps and bounds.  But we hear it over and over—students still want that face to face interaction, so we’ve got you covered.  We have drop-ins and appointments with Career Advisors. We have interview rooms so companies who visit campus can hold interviews here in our office.   We have great relationships with our employers, so take advantage of the many of opportunities to meet with Fortune 500 companies as well as start-ups!

As the busy fall semester unfolds and you begin to figure out your classes, homework, and activities load, don’t forget to add events happening through Engineering Career Services to your calendar, especially during the peak recruiting season of September though October. Here’s a sampling: Welcome Back Kick Off on August 21; Career Week September 3-13; Engineering Expo (biggest career fair on campus!) September 23 and 26; and various workshops that will help you build those very important professional skills such as Career Fair Success, and Surviving and Thriving in Technical Interviews. All these events can be found on our website or in your Handshake account under the “Events” tab.

Employer hiring plans for fall recruiting for the Class of 2020 are very robust and look very promising according to NACE’s Job Outlook, and engineering remains a top “in demand” degree at all levels.

We are here to help you in whatever stage you’re in, so please make ECS one of your stops this semester!

Best wishes,

Amy Thaci, Director, ECS
