One-way recorded video (on-demand) interviewing, otherwise known as “asynchronous” interviews, are on the rise and since it can be somewhat awkward for candidates, it is all the better to be prepared! What exactly are these types of interviews, you ask? They are conducted with software that companies use for distance interviewing that takes the place of an actual “live” person asking you the questions.
There are 2 kinds: either the employer will request a video from the candidate in which you answer pre-scripted questions due by a certain deadline OR in the video interview, you will be the only one visible but you’ll hear an interviewer ask you the questions. You landed an interview - Congratulations! You tell your friends, call your folks, and maybe even share with a professor. You bask in the “what’s possible” for a while, but soon the “what’s imminent” sets in and you start to worry. …What will they ask me? …What will I say? …Will they like me?
Channel that nervous energy. Use it to prepare for the interview rather than fret about it. You can do a Google search to find advice ranging from getting enough rest, exercise, and proper diet to using imagery and power poses. All of that can be helpful, but the best use of your time and energy would be in preparation.

It can be frustrating when a CareerEngine job posting seems to be a perfect fit but you get the annoying brown oval telling you otherwise. This blog article will cover the reasons (and solutions, if applicable) for a non-qualifying status.
When perusing job postings on CareerEngine, clicking on the title of the job will take you to a page with details of the position, including why it is you don’t qualify. Look on the right sidebar of that page for a section titled “Application Status.” There it will have one (or more) of the following error messages.

Since on-campus recruitment hits its peak in the fall, ECS appointments can go quickly as students register with our office, update their resumes, and come in for all other career-related concerns. And it’s official—this week we filled our last 30-minute appointment prior to Expo. The good news is, if you still need to register with ECS before Expo we have an event just for you! So many amazing companies come through our office every day. Four years ago, ECS decided to formally recognize those employers who were providing our students with outstanding and unique experiences with our first ever “Employer of the Year Award.” That year, we chose our winners. But something was missing. We felt that students themselves should have a hand in determining the cream of the crop when it comes to top intern and co-op experiences. Thus, the award became a student-nominated honor.
