Attention Seniors: Network with Employers Before Expo at ECSC
by Kaitlin Schafer | August 22, 2017
Not only is it a new semester, it’s FALL semester! And fall semester means seeing your college friends again, football games, changing leaves, cool weather… the list could go on! For all of you seniors – this is an exciting yet bittersweet time. Be sure to enjoy your last year as a college student while also planning for your future.
Even though graduation is several months away, NOW is the time to begin your full-time job search! Yes, you read it correctly – seniors should begin job searching as soon as the first week of classes kicks off. Many companies begin to seek out career employment talent in the fall by participating in information sessions, career fairs and on-campus interviews. Make it your goal to network with employers at all of these events! One unique event that is exclusive to seniors and offers the chance to interact with employers is the Engineering Career Success Conference held on Friday, September 15th from 11:30am -6:30pm. This one-day conference is designed to get graduating seniors ready for the career employment search BEFORE Engineering Expo.
Here are all the opportunities you will have to connect with employers at ECSC:
Industry Panel: Gather advice from engineers and human resources professionals on how to stand out during the job search. Panelists will share tips on resumes, networking, interviewing, and the hiring process.
Breakout Sessions: Gain knowledge on career related topics that will help further your job search efforts. Many of these sessions will be co-presented by an employer representative and an ECS staff member. Like traditional conferences, you’ll have the option of choosing sessions throughout the day such as interviewing (technical and behavioral), networking, preparing for the job search, and salary negotiation.
Networking: Mingle with company representatives of your choice and learn more about their organization, industry, and upcoming job openings. Talking to people who currently are in positions and industries that interest you is one of the best ways to gain valuable career information.
Interactive Lounge: Receive feedback on your elevator pitch, LinkedIn profile and/or speed mock interview from employer representatives. All of the lounge activities are aimed to help you engage effectively with professionals.
Ultimately, you will leave this event feeling motivated with concrete action steps that will help you carry out a successful job search moving forward. If you are interested in attending the Engineering Career Success Conference, sign up HERE.
