Why Should You Check Out Glassdoor.com?
Do you ever wish that you could be a fly on the wall during someone else’s interview with your dream company? You know, get an “insider look” as to what to expect? With Glassdoor.com, you can accomplish just that (sort of)!
Glassdoor is a career-focused website that is a great addition to your arsenal of interview prep materials. While it provides the basics similar to other career sites, such as job listings and company profiles, it also gives you a peek into what an actual interview with a company is like, what employees think of working there, or how much employees actually get paid. It compiles all of this information through its unique sign-up process. Before you have access to the plethora of material, you must first create an account using your email address (or you can sign in with Facebook). For the first ten days, you’ll have unlimited access to everything; however, after that time elapses, to continue using the site you’ll need to post your own inside look at a company for which you've worked. This is how they are able to gather real information about organizations. But don’t worry, everything you post is anonymous.
Here is a breakdown of everything on the site:
Jobs – This is similar to most other job aggregate sites. Search by company rating, job type, or “freshness”. You can also create a job alert.
Companies – This is where the info starts to get good! Take a look at featured companies, or browse lists of the best places to work. Check out the reviews written by real employees.
Salaries – Look at real reported (anonymous!) salaries for the most popular jobs, or do a keyword search. Also includes information on bonuses, profit sharing, and other types of pay.
Interviews – People share their interview experience with a company (good or bad), the types of questions asked, how long the process took, and whether they accepted or declined an offer.
So, if you’ve got a job interview coming up, or you just want to get the down low on a company, check out Glassdoor to get real interview questions and reviews of a company straight from its employees.
